Legal Services Division
FUNCTIONS
The role of the Legal Services Division under SHENA is a Corporate Function that supports SHENA. This division provides legal advice and services to the operational divisions, support divisions, and the strategic division for the effective delivery of SHENA’s core functions. The Legal Services Division strives to continuously improve the legal framework governing the health, safety, and environment at a workplace including radiation through continuous engagement with our stakeholders.
The responsibilities of the Legal Services Division include:
Initiate the recommendation and drafting of the Workplace Safety and Health Act and its Regulations thereunder and the Radiation Protection Act and its Regulations thereunder.
Draft, Prepare, and Vet Contracts and Templates.
Draft, Prepare, and/or Vet other related Legal Documents and Notices such as Stop Work Orders, Remedial Orders, Warning Letters, Appointment of Inspectors, IGNs etc.
Reviewing International Agreements to ensure SHENA’s compliance with international best practices.
Reviewing SHENA’s Investigation Papers before submitting them to the Public Prosecutor.
Support and Assist the Public Prosecutor in prosecuting offences under the SHENA Act, the Workplace Safety and Health Act, and the Radiation Protection Act including the Regulations under these three laws.
Act as the Secretary to the SHENA’s Board of Directors.
Member of the SHENA Tender Committee.
The Legal Services Division is headed by a Director and supported by Senior Legal Counsel and Legal Counsel. There are three sub-units under this division.
