Thursday, 17 October 2024, Theatre Hall, Prime Minister’s Office – In its continuous effort to increase Electrical Safety Awareness in the Workplaces, the Electrical Safety Committee (ESCOM) successfully organised another socialisation event promoting best practices in electrical safety, particularly within the construction sector. This is a continuation from its first socialisation event held last May this year. The event was attended by Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office, as the Guest of Honour. The primary goal of the event was to socialise newly published Electrical Safety Best Practice documents, aimed at raising awareness and providing guidance on safe electrical installations in the construction industry. The documents presented were “Guidelines and Best Practices for Construction Power Part 1: Temporary Construction Power,” “Guidelines and Best Practices for Construction Power Part 2: Standalone Mobile Generator > 10kVA to 1250kVA,” and “Guidelines and Best Practices for Construction Power Part 3: Electrical Safety at Construction Sites.” By sharing these guidelines, ESCOM aimed to enhance safety practices among industry players and improve compliance with electrical safety regulations.

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance on the minimum electrical standard when setting up mobile equipment and temporary power to be used in the period of construction or demolitions work which is intended to be taken out of service upon completion of the works on mobile /or portable electrical tools /or equipment. Compliance to relevant safety standards and requirements will enable the task to be properly carried out so as to avoid poor quality, and damage to equipment, and facility and endanger people from suffering from electric shock & burns when they use unsafe equipment and in contacting overhead power lines & buried cables.
