Monday, 17 April 2023 – As part of the commemoration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2023 and in conjunction with the Holy month of Ramadhan, the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) held a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event to provide iftar meal packs to over 150 construction workers at various worksites in the Berakas area.

While distributing the iftar meal packs, SHENA reminded principals, employers, occupiers, workers and self-employed persons to be more vigilant when it comes to advocating safety practices during Ramadhan. Working while fasting may cause fatigue, loss of focus or concentration and rapid exhaustion, which can increase the potential risk of workplace accidents. At the same time, those employees and individuals working outdoors are also susceptible to heat stress.

To mitigate these risks, SHENA encourages organisations to implement necessary safety precautions and appropriate control measures. As a guidance, a Workplace Safety and Health Notice called “Safety precautions to be taken during the fasting month of Ramadhan” (2021/WSN/02) may be referred and is available on the SHENA website  www.shena.gov.bn under the Publications section.
