Enhancing Radiation Regulatory Capacity through Scientific Visit to National Environment Agency (NEA), Singapore

Friday, 5 April 2024 – As part of SHENA’s ongoing effort towards strengthening Brunei Darussalam’s radiation regulatory infrastructure in enforcing the Radiation Protection Act, Chapter 228, a 5-Day scientific visit to the National Environment Agency (NEA) in Singapore was conducted which comprised of SHENA’s Senior Management Team and officers. The visit was led by Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office, in his capacity as the National Liaison Officer (NLO) for Brunei Darussalam.
The scientific visit was one of the activities under SHENA’s Technical Cooperation Project with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is aimed to enhance regulatory capacity in regulating the use of ionising radiation in Brunei Darussalam. Over the 5-day visit to the NEA, the delegations also had the opportunity to obtain insight into the regulatory practices of a well-established radiation regulatory authority within the region including tours to various facilities such as the radiation dosimetry and calibration laboratories, radiation ambient environmental monitoring station, radiochemistry laboratory, cancer management centre, and industrial site that utilised ionising radiation for non-destructive services.
