SHENA launches National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Policy

Berakas, 28 April 2026 – Brunei Darussalam today marked a significant national milestone  in advancing workplace safety and health with the official launch of the National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Policy during the Opening Ceremony of the Safety Month 2026, held in conjunction with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026. The launch underscores the nation’s steadfast commitment to fostering safer, healthier, and more resilient workplaces, while strengthening a robust national safety culture.

In his remarks, the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister (Security and Law), Prime Minister’s Office, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SHENA, highlighted that Brunei Darussalam’s ratification of the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187) in 2024 reflects the country’s strong commitment to advancing safe and healthy working environments through a robust legal framework, effective institutions, and continuous improvement driven by tripartite dialogue.

He further emphasised that the National OSH Policy embodies a shared and enduring commitment among the Government, employers and employees to promote the continuous improvement of workplace safety and health across Brunei Darussalam. He also expressed the hope that the Policy would serve as a catalyst for sustained progress in strengthening workplace safety and health standards.

With the launch of the National OSH Policy, SHENA reaffirms its unwavering commitment to advancing a resilient national safety culture and to ensuring safer, healthier working environments for the well-being of all in Brunei Darussalam.
