5th & 6th February 2025 – The Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, recently convened Muzakarah Sessions with Mukim Penghulus and Village Chiefs to reinforce efforts to elevate the levels of workplace safety and health across the nation.

In his opening address, Yang Mulia Haji Muhsin bin Haji Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of SHENA, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all Mukim Penghulus and Village Chiefs for their unwavering commitment. They are amongst those on the frontlines, ensuring the welfare and safety of community members by closely monitoring and swiftly addressing any unsafe practices—not only at home but also in public spaces and in work activities related to their villages.

“Your dedication to guide and protect the residents are important as you are the front liners in ensuring their safety and well-being. As the Mukim Penghulus and Village Chiefs, you have the responsibilities not only administratively, but  you also play a vital role in safeguarding lives by identifying and taking immediate action against any unsafe behaviour-related to work activities, such as construction or renovations at homes or workplaces. Your vigilance and rapid response can prevent accidents and save lives,” the CEO of SHENA highlighted.

He also strongly encourages Mukim Penghulus and Village Chiefs to report any unsafe activities, particularly those involving work-related tasks in their respective areas, at the earliest opportunity. Timely and accurate information allows SHENA to intervene swiftly, helping to mitigating potential hazards before they escalate.

The Muzakarah Sessions also underscored the “Whole-of-Nation” approach in realising Brunei Darussalam’s Vision 2035. By fostering collaboration across various segments of society, objectives related to safety, health, and environmental care can be achieved more efficiently. The leadership of Mukim Penghulus and Village Chiefs is paramount in cultivating a culture that emphasises vigilance and responsibility among all community members.

The first Muzakarah Session was attended by Yang Mulia Awang Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan, Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District), Ministry of Home Affairs as the Guest of Honour.

SHENA remains steadfast in working with all stakeholders to uphold and enhance occupational safety and health, as well as radiation safety. Through robust collaboration and active community participation, a safe, healthy, and harmonious environment can be created for all.
