SHENA strengthens environmental responsibility through Kampong Ayer Clean-Up initiative

03 July 2026

Bandar Seri Begawan, 3 July 2026 – The Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) today organised a Kampong Ayer Clean-up Programme as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability, community responsibility, and collective action.

Held at Kampong Ayer, the programme brought together SHENA employees in a coordinated effort to support the cleanliness and preservation of one of Brunei Darussalam’s most historic and culturally significant landmarks.

Conducted in collaboration with Green Brunei, the initiative comprised both boat-based clean-up activities and riverbank clearing efforts. The programme underscores SHENA’s continued commitment to supporting community-driven environmental initiatives that contribute to a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment for the nation.

A total of 326.37 kilogrammes of waste was collected during the clean-up, reflecting the collective efforts of SHENA employees and Green Brunei in supporting the preservation of Kampong Ayer’s surrounding environment.

In his remarks, Yang Mulia Haji Muhsin bin Haji Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of SHENA, emphasised the importance of translating environmental responsibility into action, noting that such initiatives reflect SHENA’s commitment to leading by example beyond its regulatory mandate.

As the national authority entrusted with workplace safety and health, environmental protection, and radiation matters, SHENA must continue to lead not only through regulatory oversight, but also through example. Our responsibility extends beyond policy and enforcement – we must embody the values we advocate. In doing so, we reinforce our commitment to building a safer, healthier and more sustainable Brunei Darussalam,” he said.

Beyond its environmental impact, the programme also served to strengthen internal engagement, teamwork, and shared accountability among employees, while fostering greater awareness of the collective responsibility to protect and preserve the environment.

Through this CSR initiative, SHENA reaffirms its commitment to cultivating meaningful partnerships and advancing initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, in line with SHENA’s broader vision of ensuring that Brunei Darussalam is a safe place to work and live.
