The Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) in collaboration with the Forestry Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism held an outreach event entitled "BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY, THE SHENA STORY" on 21 October 2020 which saw the attendance of more than 40 participants from local sawmills and downstream timber companies registered with the Forestry Department at the Design and Technology (D&T) building, Anggerek Desa.

In his Opening Remarks,  Yang Mulia Jaime Rebelo, Chief Inspector for Industry at SHENA said "Risk exists in most workplaces and especially in the timber industry, where there is a potential to cause harm through the inhalation of dust particles on a routine basis or when working with rotating machinery. Occupational health impacts can become life threatening over the long term if issues are not addressed in a timely manner." The briefing saw Officers from SHENA presenting on several topics such as the legal framework in Brunei Darussalam governing workplace safety, national HSE themes as well as factors that sawmills and timber companies have to take into consideration in ensuring the health and safety of their stakeholders at the workplace.

The event is part of SHENA's ongoing Outreach Programme which includes open HSE Forum targeting general industry and non-industry sectors, awareness campaigns and engagements with relevant stakeholders as well as the general public in pursuit of its mission in making Brunei Darussalam a safe place to work and live. The event concluded with an interactive question and answer session and received positive response from the stakeholders.
