Tuesday, 17^th October 2023 – As a continuous stride to elevate the standards and performance of safety and health across the country, the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) has joined hands with ten operators that participated in the industry placement for SHENA Apprenticeship Scheme. It was formalised through the Official Signing Ceremony for the SHENA Apprenticeship Scheme that took place at the Banquet Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office.

Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian Bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister (Security and Law) at the Prime Minister’s Office, graced the event as the Guest of Honour. Also present was Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah Siti Haziah Binti Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Head Secretariat of MPEC.

In his welcoming remarks, Yang Mulia Haji Junit Bin Haji Zakaria, Acting Interim Chief Executive Officer of SHENA highlighted that this scheme will be one of the key steps in developing and reinforcing the safety and health culture in Brunei Darussalam, as well as improving the safety performance throughout the country.

The ten operators who signed the Apprenticeship Scheme with SHENA are the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn. Bhd., Brunei LNG Sdn. Bhd., TotalEnergies EP (Brunei) B.V., Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn. Bhd., Muara Maritime Services Sdn. Bhd., Berakas Power Company Sdn. Bhd., Unified National Networks (UNN) Sdn. Bhd., Imagine Sdn. Bhd., and Progresif Sdn. Bhd. indicate their steadfast support to uplift industrial safety standards.

This SHENA Apprenticeship Scheme is devised to cultivate top-tier Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Officers in Brunei Darussalam. With the inauguration of the first intake twelve (12) months ago, the current i-Ready apprentices have already been placed in the different functions of SHENA. For the next twelve (12) months they will each continue their apprenticeship with industrial assignments to the selected operators, ensuring fast-track development and hands-on experience with the real-world.
