SHENA urges the public to embrace a resilient Safety and Healthy culture, towards zero work-related fatalities

Thursday, 08 June 2023 - The Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) hosted a momentous closing ceremony to mark the successful conclusion of SHENA Safety Month in conjunction with World Day for Safety and Health at Work (WDSHW) 2023.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work, observed annually on 28th April, serves as a platform to raise awareness about accident prevention and foster a culture of best practices that prioritise safety and health compliance in workplaces.

During the ceremony, Yang Mulia Haji Ya'akub bin Haji Yusof, Director of the Process Safety Division as acting Interim Chief Executive Officer of SHENA in his speech urged the the general public to apply safety and health culture in their organisation, not merely having documentation and policies. He further said that organisation’s should continue to reflect on the effectiveness of their safety management system in demonstrating their commitment to safety and health as a priority.

The winners of the SHENA Short Video Contest were also announced during the ceremony. Yang Mulia Jonatan Muli Anak Philip secured the first place, followed by Yang Mulia Muhammad Haziq Iman bin Salmi Jan in second place, and Yang Mulia Nur Thaqifah binti Mohammad Suffri in third place. The prizes were presented by Yang Mulia Haji Ya'akub bin Haji Yusof, alongside the presence of esteemed SHENA Senior Management Team.

In its relentless efforts to engage the public and industry stakeholders, SHENA organised a series of events across all four districts of the country. These events included roadshows featuring exhibitions, enlightening talk series, and interactive games. The overarching objective was to foster awareness and inspire collective action towards enhancing safe and healthy work environment standards, aligning seamlessly with this year's World Day for Safety and Heath theme.

SHENA remains steadfast in its commitment to prioritise the welfare of workers and cultivating a resilient safety and health culture across all sectors. With the support of  industry stakeholders, government agencies, and the public, SHENA will continue efforts towards achieving the goal of eliminating work-related fatalities and pave the way for a future where every individual in Brunei Darussalam can work in a safe and secure environment.
