Monday 9 – Friday 13 June 2025 – The Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) attended a five-day scientific visit to the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) in Bangkok, Thailand. The visit aimed to explore effective governance frameworks and implementation mechanisms in the areas of environmental radiation monitoring.
The visit was led by Yang Mulia Haji Muhsin bin Haji Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SHENA and the delegation was warmly received by Dr. Rungreung Kitpattee, M.D, Acting Secretary-General of OAP and Director-General of the Department of Science Service.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity for in-depth knowledge exchange and technical engagement with OAP experts on several key areas, including Environmental Radioactivity and Radiation Monitoring Programmes, the Early Warning Radiation Monitoring Network, and Emergency Preparedness and Response.
The delegation also had the opportunity to visit OAP’s radioecology and radiochemistry laboratories, environmental radiation monitoring stations, and Thailand’s Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Administration Centre.
This engagement reflects SHENA’s ongoing commitment under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Technical Cooperation Programme BRU9003, aimed at strengthening national capabilities in environmental radiation monitoring.
